Annemarie (Mia) C K Kuerzi Aschwanden, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend passed away on Thursday, November 9th, 2023, in Mesquite, NV. She was born on September 9th, 1934, in Dorfbach, Schwyz, Switzerland. She had three brothers, Adelrich, Ruedi & Xaver, after came = her two sisters Antoinette and Cecile. Being raised in hard times, during World War II, they were taught and disciplined to work hard, respect your elders, and live by the Catholic Church. She was someone who loved to sing, dance, and have fun, but work always came first. In Switzerland she was in the Gymnastics club, Yodel Club, and the Trachten Club (Traditional Swiss attire). She completed studies in the hospitality industry and soon thereafter had a desire to travel.
The standard of living wasn’t easy in the 1950’s and 60’s in her birth country. During this time a lot of Swiss immigrated to the United States. In 1960 she followed suit and boarded a Trans -Atlantic ship to New York to begin her new journey in America. She made her way to California, where she lived and worked in many different places.
There were a lot of Swiss clubs in California where her fellow Swiss would meet and gather. This is where she met her future husband (Max Kuerzi).
They were introduced at a Schwingfest (Swiss Festival) in Squaw Valley, CA in 1965. They were later married in Reno, NV. She called many places home in her life-Switzerland, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Hayward, Palm Springs, Southgate, Palos Verdes, and Woodland Hills. In 1979, the Kuerzi’s moved to Dayton, NV. They raised four children and operated a successful restaurant, called Mia’s Swiss Restaurant for 23 years. First operating in Carson City and then in Dayton at the Historic Odean Hall. She loved entertaining her guests with the echo of her roots through Yodeling. People would come from great distances to experience the glorious sounds of her beautiful voice. She was a devout Roman Catholic, who cherished her faith. Her passions were taking care of her Family and others, Yodeling, Singing, Dancing, Cooking and Gardening. Her vibrant energy and infectious personality would brighten any room. She had strong values and an incredible work ethic. She instilled this unto her children, to ensure their success in life.
It’s never easy when the day comes to say the last goodbye. Life will never be the same without her. We will miss her more than any words can express. The smile on your face when you left this world assures us that you are finally in the place you longed to reach Heaven.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years Max Kuerzi, her four children Maya Henseler (Goldau, Switzerland) Marcel Kuerzi (Henderson, NV), Marcus Kuerzi (Reno, NV), Minette Kuerzi (Reno, NV). Grandchildren- Nicholas and Nastassja Henseler (Goldau, Switzerland), son in law Albert Henseler (Goldau Switzerland). Sisters- Antoinette Scherrer-Parkinson (New Zealand), Cecile Von Euw(Switzerland) and brother Adelrich Aschwanden (Switzerland).
A Funeral Mass for Anne Marie will be held Tuesday, November 21st, 2023, at 10:00 AM at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church- 3 Melanie Dr, Dayton, NV 89403. A committal service will occur Tuesday, November 21st, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Dayton Cemetery (Cemetery Rd, Dayton, NV 89403). A celebration of life will take place at the Dayton Community Center (164 Pike Street, Dayton, NV), shortly after the completion of the committal service.
