Larry passed away at the age of 66 on September 26, 2023, in Carson City, NV with the love of his life, his soul mate, his wife, Terry Burton, members of his immediate family and good friends by his side. Larry was a graduate of Sutter Union High School in CA. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman all his life.
Larry worked for over 30 years in wildlife management working in fish hatcheries for the Nevada Department of Wildlife and the California Department of Wildlife, raising and delivering trout across both states. For 20 years he was a volunteer fire chief in Ruby Valley protecting the livelihoods of the ranchers. Upon retiring, Larry became self-employed and became a freelance photographer and tour guide known as Outdoor Adventures. Larry loved teaching photography workshops. Night sky workshops were one of his favorites.
Larry was known as the Nevada guy because of his outstanding photos of Nevada’s wildlife, landscapes, night sky, and flowers. His photography work built a strong friendship with the Native Americans across Nevada, and he began working very closely with the American Indian Alaskan Native Tourism Association (“AIANTA”), Nevada Indian Commission, Nevada Indian Territory and Stewart Cultural Center and Museum. He truly honored and respected their traditions and values. He also worked and built strong friendships with Oat Bran Bike Tour, Cowboy Country (Travel Nevada) and Great Basin Nevada Artists. Many of Larry’s photos have been placed in Nevada Magazine as well as Wells Ruralite, Frontier phone books, Elko Convention & Visitors Authority Calendars and Visitors Guides, Audubon Magazine, Ducks Unlimited Calendars and Carson City Nevada Visitors Guide. Larry loved to volunteer his time and talent with many organizations. Larry is preceded in death by his mother Alice Burton and is survived by his wife Terry Burton, his father Lawrence Burton, Sr., his son Lloyd Burton (Kim), stepsons Ken Sumner (Reanin), Chris Sumner (Daril), sister Laura Mackie, grandchildren Layla Burton, Lily Sumner and Natalee Parish, niece Catherine Mackie and nephew James Mackie.
