Marilyn Hines, 87, of Carson City, NV, passed away on September 30, 2023, after a sudden battle with cancer.
Marilyn was born on October 6, 1935, to Leslie Trotman and Mildred Mackay Trotman in Miller S.D. During High School she met her future husband, Thomas Hines. She was a cheerleader; he was a farm boy and football player. They dated through High School and were married August 1, 1954. After graduating from Miller High School in 1953, she went on to study at University of S.D., Vermillion. Joining her husband at the University they set up housekeeping in a very old WWII veterans' single wide trailer. She worked in the experimental lab until pregnant with their first child. During Tom's college years they had 2 children, Robert, and Ann. After her husband's graduation from the 2-year medical school, they moved to Los Angeles to complete his medical training. After graduation they moved to San Diego where he joined the Navy.
They had their third child, Rodney during their time in the Los Angeles area. Now that they had a family, Marilyn decided to dedicate her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. Before moving to Carson City in 1967, she had two more children, Michael, and Patrick (Mike and Pat). Marilyn excelled at propping up her family and friends and supporting them through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. She made it her mission to improve the lives of others. Marilyn was a dedicated PEO sister for 60+ years, supporting women’s' strengths and voices. But her first and greatest joy was filling her home with warmth and kindness, always keeping an open door to all that needed it.
Only second to her family, she was an adventurer. She learned to scuba dive with her son Rod, went white water rafting with her son Mike, cheered her son Patrick during his adventures in football, track, and mountain climbing, and rode a motorcycle with her daughter. She traveled the world with her Mackay cousins' group annually. They traveled throughout the US, Canada, and Scotland, to name just a few. She was always a proud Patriot, Nevadan, South Dakotan, and member of the Scottish Mackay Clan. Her greatest pride was her family. We don't know what we will do without her. We will miss her every day.
Marilyn was predeceased by their beloved son Robert, her older brother Neil Trotman and her parents Les and Mildred Trotman.
She is survived by her children: Ann Hines Miles and husband John, Rodney Hines and wife Heidi, Michael Hines, Patrick Hines and wife Melissa, her brother Frank Trotman and wife Charlene, and sister-in-law Elaine Trotman. Her grandchildren: Cody Hines and wife Cory, Kevin Hines, Carly Hines, Joel Hines, and Eric Hines. Great grandchildren include Carson Hines and Charlotte Hines. Her extended family include Grandson Alex Street and wife Shelby, and great grandchildren Monroe and Kennedy Street.
