LAS VEGAS - Dan Keating 74, passed away peacefully at his summer residence in Laguna Woods, CA August 7, 2023. Dan, the oldest of five children, was born December 2, 1948, in Kearney, Nebraska to Dennis and Emily (Hanzal) Keating.
Dan and his family moved to Carson City in 1959. He attended Carson City schools, 5th grade through high school, graduating in 1967. Dan proudly attended the University of Nevada, Reno earning a degree in Civil Engineering in 1972. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Dan began his career as an engineer for the Nevada Department of Transportation in Carson City, transferring to Las Vegas in 1977 working 5 more years. He left the Department of Transportation to become a Roadway Engineer for the City of Las Vegas for 25 years.
Dan was always an active supporter of the Boy Scouts, proudly earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Scouting helped give Dan his love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing camping, target shooting, hunting, and endlessly hoping for the Raiders to win another Super Bowl. Dan became an avid golfer and an active member of the Laguna Hills Yacht Club.
In 1985 he married his true love Usanee Ocncharoen and was married until her passing in 2016 following her courageous battle with breast cancer. Dan and Usanee enjoyed many years traveling the world and visiting their extended families. They especially enjoyed holidays with his brothers, sister, and many nieces and nephews. Dan is survived by his siblings, sister Kathryn (Leonard) Pugh, brothers Tom (Martha) Keating, Pat (MaryAnn) Keating, Bill (Mary) Keating, as well as 17 nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, November 14 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at St Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, in Carson City. A private internment will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity.
