Born in Watertown SD on August 8, 1925, Hal was the 13th child out of 14. He is survived by one sibling Phyllis Jongeling 101 years old of Watertown SD.
Hal enlisted in the Navy at 17 years old during WWII. Spent 4 years in the Pacific on the USS Killen. He was a second class radarman. The USS Killen saw a lot of battles and was hit by a Japanese Suicide Plane, they lost 17 young men. The ship was repaired and returned to finish out the war.
When he got out of the service in 1947, He moved to Glendale CA and went to work at the Pacific Telephone Company. Where he worked until he retired 36 years later. Hal married Mary Ann Hersey on May 8, 1948. They we married for 62 years, they had two daughters Sharon Kendall (son in law Ben) living in Huron OH and Nancy Friend (son in law Ken) living in Minden NV. He has 5 grandchildren Dave Black of Stagecoach NV, Michele Black of So. Lake Tahoe CA, Scott Kendall of New Lenox IL, Jeff Kendall of Tacoma WA, Allison Kendall of Castalia OH and 13 great grandchildren.
Hal’s hobbies were golf, traveling, reading, going to the gym, watching sports on TV, going to plays and enjoying family and friends.
Hal loved his church and attended regularly at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church In Carson City NV. He had a wonderful 99 years and is now with his Lord.
Funeral service will be held at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church 3680 Hwy 395 Carson City, NV Wednesday September 4th at 11 am .
