Bonnie was born in Hartford, Connecticut, to Anton and Clyda Lassen on December 22, 1939. Bonnie also had two brothers, Earl and Tom. She lived in Coventry, Connecticut. She loved synchronized swimming. She was on her high school swim team for four years. Bonnie joined the United States Navy in 1959. This is where she met her husband of 53 years, Michael Martinkus. They were stationed in Bermuda where she had her first so Michael J Martinkus in 1961. After a short career in the Navy, she received an honorable discharge and moved back to Connecticut. Bonnie had her second son John Thomas in 1965, followed by her third son Jay Andrew Martinkus in 1970. After a couple of visits to Nevada, Bonnie and Mike purchased a small business in Carson City. They ran the business for 10 years. After selling the business Bonnie then went to work for the state of Nevada. She worked for the state 15 years before retiring with her husband.
Bonnie and Mike put God, family, and friends first in their lives, and it showed in everything that they did. They became involved with the First Presbyterian Church in Carson City. Bonnie enjoyed going to church every Sunday with her husband and interacting with the congregation. Bonnie and her husband loved to camp at Nevada Beach as often as possible. Bonnie believed in the greater good of her community and her family. Nothing meant more to her than her family. She enjoyed attending her sons and granddaughter's sporting events. She enjoyed being a grandmother and jumped at every opportunity to spend time with her sons and their families. In 2012, Bonnie and Mike took their sons and families on a cruise to Bermuda. This was a very special vacation for everyone as they got to see the very house that Bonnie and Mike lived in for a short time while in the Navy.
Bonnie was a generous woman in every sense of the word who loved her family and friends dearly. She took good care of the people she loved. Bonnie was a wonderful daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, and grandmother. We all love and miss you so much but know you have joined your friends and family that left before you, whom you loved and missed so much. Bonnie is survived by her sons Michael (& Geneva) and Jay (& Monica), her granddaughters, Nicole, Ashley, Megan, Maiya, and five great grandchildren. We love you, Bonnie. You'll always be our hearts, and memories. We miss you.
