It is with great sorrow we announce that Judith Ann Elges, age 83, passed away on February 9, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born on December 29, 1940, to Jesse and Verda Rhea Maxsom and raised in Carson City, Nevada. Judith was known as “Judy” to those that knew and loved her. She was a wife, mother, sister, teacher, and friend.
Judy attended Carson City schools and then attended the University of Nevada Reno, graduating in 1962 with a degree in Education. She continued her studies at the University, and graduated in 1982 with a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority where she developed life-long friendships.
On July 22, 1962, she married Harlan Elges, her spouse for over 60 years. They had two sons, Michael (1965) and Mark (1968).
Upon graduation from college, Judy was employed by the Carson City School District where she held positions of teacher, dean of students, vice principal and principal. Upon her retirement from the school district, she went on to be the first lay principal at St. Teresa Catholic School in Carson City, Nevada from 1996 to 1999.
Judy had a passion for education and teaching. After her retirement from the Carson City School District and St. Teresa Catholic School, she served on the board for the Montessori School in Carson City and participated in\ the English as a Second Language for Adults program (ESL) in Carson City. She was a member of P.E.O., a philanthropical educational organization to promote continued and higher education for women.
Judy enjoyed spending time with her husband and family at Lake Tahoe and traveling much of the world. Her other hobbies included sewing and quilting. She loved all her dogs over the years especially her current dog, Elsa. Judith was preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Verda Rhea, and her husband Harlan who passed away in 2022. Survivors include her sons Michael and Mark, along with her sister Patricia Sheen and nephews Gary, Brent, and Daniel.
