We are very sad to announce the passing of our mom, Cathy Sargent, but we know that she is now dancing in heaven with our dad, Mike Sargent, her husband of 58 years, exactly how she wanted. Cathy took her last breath in Carson City, Nevada on January 20 just five das before her 80th birthday peacefully surrounded by her family. Her daughters, Marcie and Dena, sons-in-law, Jeff Thran and Michael McClung, and sister and husband, Vickie and Kirk Cunningham, want to convey their deep love of Cathy and how much they will miss her beautiful smile and sunny outlook on life. Cathy Ann Owens was born on January 25, 1944, to John L. Owens and Mary L. Owens in Jefferson City, Missouri. She graduated from Carson High School in 1962. Cathy married Mike Sargent on June 5, 1965, and had her daughters Marcie Thran and Dena McClung.
Cathy spent much of her daughters' voung lives as a stay-at-home mom working very part-time jobs. She was a bookkeeper with the Water Sub conservancy District in Gardnerville several hours a week and when her children were in high school began working for Lumus Draperies. Later she worked for Douglas County School District in the transportation department.
Cathy will be remembered for her great love of people. She never knew a stranger and would share a smile and conversation with everyone she met. She particularly treasured her time with her sister. They were very close, sharing their lives in so many ways including twice daily phone calls. Cathy loved animals. especially her dogs. She and Mike traveled around the US by travel trailer just so their animals could go with them.
Cathy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mike Sargent, her brother John L. Owens, her mother and her father. She is survived by her children. Marcie Thran (Jeff) and Dena McClung (Mike), her grandchildren, Tyler (Sarah), Jacob (Christine), and Hayley (Bryan), and her great-grandchildren Tara and Makenzie. She is also survived by her sister, Vickie Cunningham and husband Kirk, and her nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of Cathy's life this summer.
