David Roscoe Vassar left this world on January 15 surrounded by the women who loved him, his wife, daughter, mother, and sisters - and his loyal dog Simba.
The son of Roscoe Kay Vassar and Marian Eloise Vassar of Genoa, David was born on December 18, 1967, in Santa Cruz, California and spent his childhood in California and Michigan. During his Boy Scout days, he was awarded the Ad Altare Dei badge.
David loved all animals, and while living in Missouri he worked at an exotic animal ranch, at one time transporting giraffes to the San Diego Zoo.
It was in Missouri that he met the love of his life, Carla Kay Beers. David, Carla, and their children moved to the Carson Valley in 1999 to be closer to extended family.
David embarked on a career as a Master Electrician. He found his niche working as an electrician in the mining industry; his last position was working underground for Nevada Copper, a job he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Carla Kay Vassar; daughter Shannan (Ryan) Jones; son Devin Vassar; Mother Marian Vassar; sisters Gayle (Eric) Vassar and Erin (Jim) Gaston; grandchildren Maddex, Rylan, Liam, Skyler, and Sophia; and many nephews and nieces, all of whom adored him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roscoe Kay Vassar.
David loved deep sea fishing, going to the family ranch and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
As Dave would say: Thanks for the memories.
