Catherine (Cathy) R. Kreis, 87 of Carson City, moved into her heavenly residence on July 5, 2024.
Faithful to the end, Cathy’s deep gratitude for Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for her on the cross led her to commit to serving God as he opened the way. From 1991, her passion was to help fulfill His “Great Commission”.
Born in Alameda, California, Cathy earned her bachelor’s degree in Geography/History at UCLA. Her early career included a variety of corporate employers: Douglas County School District (NV); Heavenly Valley Ski Resort and Conejo Valley School District (CA); Princeville Development Company and Hanalei Bay Resort (HI). Self-employed as CK Consulting, she provided administrative services to several small businesses in Hawaii and elsewhere.
Later, she transitioned to the non-profit field and served an Ambassadors for Christ, Inc/ AFCI-USA (Georgia), then at First Baptist Church of Pigeon Forge (Tennessee), and even later in the Mohave County Historical Society (Arizona).
She moved often but made lifelong friends in each place: In California (Alameda, Westwood, Pasadena, Canoga Park, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Dinuba, Orange Cove, and South Lake Tahoe). In Nevada (Gardnerville and Carson City); in Hawaii (Kaua’i), Georgia (Marietta), Tennessee (Sevierville), and Arizona (Kingman). Maybe you are one of them.
Her book Beyond All Reason: God at Work in the South Pacific, (Redemption Press, WA), is a documentary centered on her experience in the South Pacific. She also edited other published writers in the USA, India, and Pakistan. Cathy traveled and worked in many nations, sharing God’s love and her gifts with people from all walks of life. Her calling included twelve years among the Navajo, more than twenty years in the Pacific Islands (Hawaii, Cook Islands, Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu) and most recently in India and Europe.
Cathy was preceded in death by her son, Terrence Lee Kreis (stillborn 1962), her parents, Charles M. and Mary Miller Romanowitz, and her two brothers, Charles M. Romanowitz Jr. and Harold M. Romanowitz, and her former husband, Robert L. Kreis.
Those of her family who remain include her son Charles R. “Chip” Kreis, Daughter-in-law, Paula A. Kreis, grandchildren Robert M. Kreis and Brianna T. Kreis; sisters-in-law Margaret (Harold) Romanowitz and Carol (Charles Jr.) Romanowitz; nephew Theodore H. Romanowitz; niece, Ann Margaret (Richard) Hansen; great-nephews, Jacob T. Romanowitz and Calvin O. Hansen, and great-nieces, Peri Lee Hansen and Meri Emmaline Romanowitz. Cathy also leaves several cousins and numerous very special friends around the world, many of whom are rejoicing that she is at last with her Savior Yeshua Ha’Mashiah (Jesus the Messiah).
