It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Jane Irene Theiss. On June 20, 2024, In Carson City, which she called home for the last 52 years.
Jane was born in Herman, Minnesota to Harold and Minnie Johnson, third of four girls raised on the family farm. She attended their one room elementary school house and studied music from an early age.
She graduated from Herman High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. She went on to receive her master’s degree in music from University of Rochester in 1952. She taught Piano at Maryville college in Knoxville, Tennessee. While there she was the music and choir director at St. Paul’s Lutheran church where she met and Married Bob Theiss. They moved to San Diego, CA and had three children Barbara, Paul and Stephanie. They moved to Mondovi Wisconsin and had three more children. David, Lorna, and James. In 1971 they moved the family to Nevada where she taught Piano for over 40 years. Jane was very active in the Music scene in Carson City, performing with many chorales and chamber music events. Jane performed in Carnegie Hall in New York City twice. She started and coordinated the Carson Music club and was the president for over Ten years. Organist and music director for many churches along her way, Jane was the organist for First Presbyterian Carson City for 23 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her older sister, Joan and younger sister Rosemarie.
Jane is survived by eldest sister Harriet, her 6 children, 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and one on the way.
Her memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 8th at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church Carson City.
