Garry “Dutch” Den Heyer was born Gerrit den Heijer in Scheveningen, Netherlands in 1933. He emigrated to the United States by way of Australia where he lived for several years.
Garry married Carol in 1966 and became father to a blended family of five: Lora Wilson-Carter, Chris den Heijer (Laurel), Lynne Barkley (Gordon), Richard Den Heyer (Arlene), Sharon Mahseredjian and two bonus daughters: Cheryl Beswick (Scott), Dana Jenkerson (Keith). Family in Holland incudes sister, Cornelia van der Hout and many nieces and nephews. Garry was a grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather.
He had many trades and professions in his lifetime but may best be remembered for establishing Valley Pump and Electric. Garry loved living in the Carson Valley for nearly 50 years. He was active in volunteering. He was a proud member and officer of Carson Valley Sertoma, on the senior Advisory Council, Douglas County Sheriff’s Posse, and the East Fork Swimming Pool Board.
Garry was and is well-loved and forever missed.
