Daniel William Cravens, 74, of Gardnerville, passed awayon June 15, 2024. Dan was born on October 13, 1949, to William and Dorothy Cravens in Gary, Indiana.
After graduating from Jordan High School in 1966, Dan spent two years in the Army during the Vietnam War before he pursued a degree in criminal justice. Upon earning his degree, Dan embarked on a 35-year career in law enforcement, beginning with the Signal Hill Police Department. Throughout his career, he held numerous positions, including K9 Officer, Watch Commander, and Chief of Detectives. In 1967, Dan met Mara Carr in Long Beach, CA. They had two children, Chad and Jennifer. After Mara’s passing in 1997, Dan later married Debbie Schwartz. Dan retired in 2003, dedicating his time to raising dogs, fishing, camping, and playing his favorite casino game, Four Card Keno. His love for dogs was a lifelong journey, filled with cherished canine companions. Dan was predeceased by his father, William Cravens; his mother, Dorothy Cravens; his first wife, Mara Cravens; and his sisters, June Cravens, Linda Came, and Mary Ellen Schaffer and son in law Mart Mullins.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Cravens; his children, Chad Cravens and Jennifer Mullins, his stepchild, Logan Schwartz, son-in-law, Christopher Umana, and grandchildren, Maliana Mullins, Madalynn Umana, Mara Cravens, and Camryn Cravens.
Services will be held in Long Beach, CA, with the time to be announced.
