Our beloved Julie Rae Schulz, 74, found eternal rest on April 4th, 2024. While battling cancer and living with Alzheimer’s, she remained the woman we knew; full of love, strength, smiles, faith, and forgiveness. We will miss our incredible mom, trusting friend, caring teacher and counselor.
Julie was born November 28, 1949, in Carson City to Ray and Irene (Schlapkohl) Schulz. Julie attended St. Teresa’s grade school and graduated from Carson High in 1967. As a teen Julie participated in beauty pageants and was crowned as Miss Carson City in 1969!
Using the B.A. and M.S. degrees earned at UNR, Julie worked for 24 years in Douglas County teaching 1st grade and later providing services as a School Counselor. Her interest in helping those of all ages led her to faith formation, and to train in and share her gifts as both a Prayer Labyrinth Facilitator and Reiki Master, guiding others to find their paths of peace.
Julie loved adventure whether riding horseback through the Grand Tetons, rafting the CO river (through the Grand Canyon on a wooden dory!), or exploring foreign countries. She loved the outdoors; spending time at the family ranch, enjoying the beach, tent camping and
walks around Spooner Lake.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Irene, and former husband Dale Saunders. She leaves a loving memory to her brothers John (Tammi) and Jeff Schulz, her daughter Telsche (Lance) Hipple, granddaughter Madison Rae, nieces Rhiannon and Jessica, great-nieces Britney and Gemma, and numerous loving friends.
Services will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson on May 9th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Food for the Poor or Heifer International, both organizations that Julie supported.
