Emeleze (Emily) Jane Ross passed away peacefully
on July 28 in Gardnerville, Nevada, she was 84 years
old. Her devoted son Monte, grandson Clayton, and
granddaughter Shanna were by her side. Monte had
been her caretaker for the past 3-1/2 years since the
death of her husband Robert (Bob) Ross.
Emily left her hometown of Ridge Spring, South Carolina
at the age of 16, one day after graduating from high
school. She joined her sister, Marge, in North Hollywood
where she met her husband, they had been married for
64 years. In 1969 the family moved to Mammoth Lakes,
California where her husband was a roofing contractor,
and they opened a successful building supply business.
Emily was a dedicated and hard-working woman, she
loved her contractor customers, and always had a fun
time during her workdays. In the 1990’s, Emily and
her husband left Mammoth and, in the years to come,
lived in Aransas Pass, Texas, Temecula, CA and finally
Gardnerville. While in Texas, they purchased various
commercial properties which are active to this day. Emily
worked on the bookkeeping for the family businesses
until she was hospitalized, 7 days prior to her passing.
Emily was determined and never gave up, she fought
hard until the end.
Emily and her husband loved to travel. Early in their
travels they enjoyed cruise ships and took trips to
the Caribbean and the Mediterranean Sea. Later in
their travels, they made trips to Southeast Asia, with
Singapore as their favorite. They never met a stranger
and made lasting friendships over the years.
Emily is survived by her sister, Velda Garvin, her
two sons, Monte and Mark, daughter Melody Strong
and 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
