Charles William Joerg, 82, passed away August 30, 2024, from colon cancer in Costa Rica where he had lived for the last 20 years.
Born January 28, 1942, to Melvin and Geraldine Joerg, he grew up in Formoso, KS and was the oldest of three children.
He graduated from Fort Hays State University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in accounting. He moved his family to Carson City, NV in 1969 and went on to have a successful CPA practice. He was named a presidential appointee to the 1986 White House Conference on Small Business.
Charlie, as he was known, served two terms in the Nevada State Assembly (1983-1986) and one term in the Nevada State Senate (1987-1990). After his senate term he served as a lobbyist before retiring and moving to Costa Rica.
Charlie became an avid poker player in retirement. Known as CJ he played in many tournaments in Las Vegas, Costa Rica and Panama to name a few locations.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Linda Wilson. He is survived by his brother Kenny Joerg of Formoso, KS; daughter Stacie Joerg Cobb of Gardnerville, NV; son Alan Joerg of Carson City, NV; 2 grandchildren, also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
