Gardnerville woman celebrates 100th birthday

Merrill Gardens Gardnerville resident Evelyn "Sally" Jenkins celebrated her 100th birthday on Sept. 28. In honor of the special day, Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn awarded Sally the "Silver State Centenarian" award.

Sally was born in Reno in 1906 and has been a resident of Nevada all her life. She married chiropractor Robert Jenkins in 1926. Before Robert's passing in 1994, the couple celebrated 68 years of marriage. Their son Dan Jenkins, a land planner and his wife Lori live in Minden. Sally has three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Sally has been a beautician/beauty shop owner and homemaker. She also served as a National Queen for the Daughters of the Nile, an international fraternal organization that has prospered as a social and charitable organization since 1913. A world traveler, she has toured all over the world. She has been an avid golfer for many years and was a member of the Hidden Valley Country Club in Reno.

Sally has been an active resident of the Merrill Gardens Gardnerville community for the last five years. The residents and staff of Merrill Gardens celebrated Sally's 100th with a cake and punch reception and the presentation of the Governor's award to Sally and her family.
