Trinity Lutheran Church welcomes new pastor

Eric Borchers will be ordained as Pastor of Family Life and Youth in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod at Trinity Lutheran Church on Aug. 5.

Borchers was born May 25, 1973, in San Antonio, Texas, and spent much of his early life on his family's farm and ranch in Pearsall, Texas, where they raised Hereford cattle and cultivated a large variety of crops.

In 1993, he began to travel with a missionary from his local church across the United States, Canada and Mexico. His primary role was developing relationships with different denominations and youth pastors. These efforts encouraged the construction of a mission in a small mountain town in Mexico. The His Place, House of Missions, is still in operation.

Borchers has been married to his high school sweetheart Mindy for 11 years and they have three children: Taylor, Shelby and Joey. In 1996, he pursued a career in the U.S. Air Force as an intelligence analyst. While on active duty, he earned degrees in applied aerospace science, strategic intelligence analysis and occupational education. He was an intelligence analyst for seven years in the Air Force until he was medically retired after an accident.

Borchers returned to the ministry after his retirement from the Air Force in 2002 and graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo., with a master's degree in divinity.

Borchers and Tom Windsor will be the two pastors at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Borchers is excited about moving to Carson Valley.

"This feels like home," he said. "The countryside is beautiful, the people are more friendly. They are like family. I cannot wait to get involved with my new church and community."

The community is invited to a pre-service concert and to the ordination. The concert featuring music for organ, instruments, soloists, children's choir, SierraSpirit singers and handbells is 6:25 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The church service begins at 7 p.m. Sunday. Trinity Lutheran Church is at 1480 Douglas Ave., Gardnerville.
