Back country horsemen host Hank Curry clinic May 15

Tickets are available for the second Hank Curry Horsemanship Clinic from 8:30 .m.-4 p.m. May 15 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

Spectator tickets are $25 before May 1 or $30 after that and at the gate.

The event is sponsored by the Back Country Horsemen of Nevada.

Ten members of the organization, paying $40 each, are invited to work with Curry for hands-on training for their horses.

Curry is to demonstrate training techniques on trailer loading, head shyness, shoeing and other issues.

Last year's clinic attracted 100 participants.

Phil Sullivan, president of the Carson Valley chapter of Back Country Horsemen, said Curry is the head trainer at the Warm Springs Correctional Center training facility in Carson City and the "man behind the current success of the Carson City prison wild horse program."

"Since Hank has taken over this training facility, the demand for and the value of the horses he trains has steadily risen," Sullivan said. "The most exceptional thing about Hank ... he not only trains the horses, he trains the men to train the horses."

Admission to the horsemanship clinic includes a barbecue lunch and a "tailgate tack sale."

Tickets are available at S&W Feed and Benson's Feed in Carson City and Eastern Sierra and Laxague Feed in Gardnerville.

Spectators are asked not to bring horses or dogs. Minors must be accompanied by adults.
