Starting out the new year with clean closets

It seems the time of year to clean out Christmas decorations and while cleaning them out for the Goodwill, to clean out more stuff. That's what we did on New Year's Day when the tree came down and actually fit back in its original box - don't know how that happened, but we made it.

While cleaning out the barn to fit all the decorations back in, we had to contemplate how much we needed to repack in the barn. The answer was, not too much. Four 33-gallon trash bags later, I hope to Goodwill store was thrilled.

That got me in the mood for more, cupboard cleaning. My son asked, when did you use that glass blender last? I started to think. It's been lots of years. When did I use that snow cone maker last? At least seven years. Wow, how stuff accumulates. Here's some advice, look in your cupboards, when did you use it last?

Girl Scouts

The Girl Scouts had their annual cookie kickoff Friday night at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville. They each got a Girl Scout cookie sale kickoff party badge, a T-shirt and a Girl Scout pin.

There were lots of troops that showed up. There were booths set up for safety review, scrap book page, making change (like if someone gave you $5 and the charge was only $4 how much change would you give them?)

Also there was a cookie tea party so you could sample six of the Girl Scout cookies, problem-solving on how to untangle yourselves if you needed help to work as a team. There was trivia, what is wrong with this picture and a cookie drawing where you would draw a cookie to enter as a prize.

Last were thank-you notes to whoever helped you. A good time was had by all. Thanks Jill and Lisa, from Jenee and me.

Nevada Wandering Wheels Motorcycle Club

Do you own, ride or want a motorcycle? The Nevada Wandering Wheels may be the motorcycle club you would like to be a part of this year. We are a great group of people who love to ride here and there. Some long road trips in the summer (this year to Mount Rushmore) and some local trips to the wine country in California are planned.

If you are slightly interested we have an informal meeting at Centerfield in Gardnerville this Thursday Jan. 14 at 5 p.m. or our official meeting at Jethros in the Ranchos on Saturday morning at 8:30 Jan. 23. All are welcome, bring your wife too.
