Motorcyclists to raise funds for soldiers' daughter

Family and friends of murdered soldiers Timothy and Randi Miller are sponsoring the first Kassidy's Ride: For the Life Left Behind on July 17 to benefit the couple's now 2-year-old daughter.

Staff Sgt. Timothy J. Miller, 27, and his wife, Sgt. Randi J. Miller, 25, were murdered March 1, 2008, at their home by a fellow soldier in Fort Lewis, Wash.

During the crime, their baby Kassidy was kidnapped, but returned to her family unharmed. She now lives with her paternal grandparents in Gardnerville.

The ride begins at 11:30 a.m., leaving the Bait Farm Saloon in Silver Springs, and arriving at the Stratton Center parking lot in Gardnerville about 12:30 p.m. Riders may join the event at either location.

Participants will continue to a barbecue with live music at the New Washoe Bar on Eastlake Boulevard in Washoe Valley.

The sign-in donation is $15 per rider.

Proceeds will benefit Kassidy with 10 percent going to the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund.
