About 140 people attended the State of the County address on Monday night. Guy Rocha was excellent and name-checked The R-C a couple of times in sourcing his material. Even the CVIC Hall's ghost showed up, bedeviling the sound setup and delaying the program by until about 6:45 p.m.

A 55-year-old Gardnerville man is scheduled to be sentenced today in Douglas County District Court on a charge of attempted extortion. James Kent pleaded guilty to the charge last month in a deal to avoid more serious kidnapping charges related to a Nov. 3 incident.

I wondered what unseasonable weather was going to pop up between us and the end of winter. The answer? Thunderstorms. Today's weather will be mostly sunny with the high climbing to almost 70. On Wednesday and Thursday, we have the chance for showers and thunderstorms accompanying an unstable air mass that cool off the highs and warm up the lows for a bit. The National Weather Service is calling for 30 percent change of thunderstorms and showers both days.
