After-holiday donations welcome at food closet

The months after the holidays are difficult for donations at the Carson Valley Community Food Closet, but the community has come forward with enough to keep us and our clients going.

Food donations received in January (in pounds): G.L Distributing ((334), Douglas County Public Library (175), DAWG (70), St. Gall Catholic Church (462), Christ Presbyterian Church (45), Douglas High School ski team (16), Rite Aid (80), Gene Clark (107), Kathy Carlos (66), Carson Valley United Methodist Church (330), Soroptomists (34), Gold Dust Casino (157), Michael Smith (3), Coventry Cross Episcopal Church (25), Danny and Maggie Rich (23), Target (95).

As always we so thank those who prefer to remain anonymous as well as Raley's, Smith's, Scolari's, Walmart, Starbucks of Minden and Gardnerville, Costco, Trader Joe's, Shell Country Store, Russell's Mercantile, and Variety Bakery.

Thank you to the person who donated a 300-pound steer to Anderson Family Processing for butchering and then sending it to us.

Cash donations were received from David and Tina Tuhady, Kevin and Rebecca Seratus, Marcella Oxoby, Coventry Cross Episcopal Church, Doug and Marian Johnson, Christ Presbyterian Church, and customers and employees of Raley's, Smith's and Scolari's.

Drop off nonperishable items at the food closet, noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 1255 Waterloo, Gardnerville, or call 782-3711.
