Genoa, Nev. — It’s Graduation Day in Carson Valley, which will kick off with Douglas Nevada Online 12:30-1:15 p.m. followed by ASPIRE Academy 1:45-2:30 p.m., both at the CVIC Hall. Douglas High School graduation is 5:30 p.m. on the softball field.

Beatles Flashback is performing 6 p.m. at Minden Park as part of the Bently Summer Concert Series. The forecast calls for sunny skies, so not much likelihood of a repeat from last time.

Genoa resident and retired California firefighter Clare Frank will give a reading of her book, “Burnt: A Memoir Fighting FIre” 5:30 p.m. at the Pink House, 193 Genoa Lane. You can get tickets at www.therealclarefrank.com

Nevada’s first official Juneteenth is Monday celebrating the emancipation of the slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865. Federal offices have recognized the day since 2021, and now local and state offices will be closed.

The summer solstice is Wednesday, so of course it will be preceded by a cold front. After a forecast high temperature of 83 degrees on Saturday, temperatures will drop into the upper 60s on Monday with a low near 35 degrees that night.

Warmer weather could see some rises on the river, but nothing we haven’t seen before. At the halfway point in June, Minden has recorded 1.17 inches of rain, bringing it to within .07 inches of 2017. Since the start of the water year, the Douglas County seat has received 22.47 inches of moisture, which I believe is a new record.
