Baseball: Pack prepares for regular season finale

The University of Nevada (31-19-1, 11-8-1 WAC) will close out the Western Athletic Conference regular season hosting Louisiana Tech (26-25, 10-10 WAC) in a four-game series at Peccole Park.  Friday's doubleheader gets underway at 2 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday's single games starting at 1 p.m.

Currently the Wolf Pack are in third place with an 11-8-1 record with the Bulldogs 1.5 games back in fourth with a 10-10 record.  Nevada would need to sweep LA Tech to move past New Mexico State (14-9-1) into second place and could possible overtake first place Fresno State (13-7) depending on this weekend's games.  NMSU is done playing WAC games while FS hosts Sacramento State.  The Pack, FS and NMSU have already secured spots in next week's WAC Tournament in Mesa, Ariz.  LA Tech, Hawai`i (9-11), San Jose State (8-12) and Sac State (6-14) are still battling for the remaining three spots with one weekend remaining in conference play.

Nevada leads the series with LA Tech 33-9 which have all been WAC contests.  In games played in Reno the Pack hold a 16-3 advantage.  Nevada won three of the four games played last season in Ruston, La. by scores of 8-5, 11-7 and 4-1 before falling 17-14 in game four.  In the last series played at Peccole Park, Nevada swept the four games by scores of 11-6, 14-3, 7-6 and 6-4 during the 2008 season.
