CaptureRx, a third party vendor who provides service to healthcare providers, including Washoe Barton Medical Clinic d/b/a Carson Valley Medical Center, has released information on a recent event at CaptureRx that may affect the privacy of some of Carson Valley Medical Center patients’ personal information.
CaptureRx has reported that the incident took place on February 6, 2021 and involved files with patients’ first and last names, dates of birth, prescription information and in some cases, medical record numbers. Upon learning of this incident, Capture-Rx confirmed the security of its systems, reviewed the contents of relevant files for sensitive information, and notified business partners of the incident. CaptureRx states that they are reviewing and enhancing their security policies and procedures, and providing additional workforce training to reduce the likelihood of a similar future event.
There is no evidence that the information has been misused and Capture-Rx has directly notified affected patients via letters mailed to each address of record. Affected patients are encouraged to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud, review account statements and explanation of benefits forms, and monitor credit reports for suspicious activity or errors.
