Genoa, Nev. — The California Highway Patrol is reporting a 36-foot box truck loaded with Amazon packages spun out heading down Highway 88 near the top of Woodfords Canyon around 5 a.m. If you’re heading that direction, expect delays as they get everything cleared.

I’m hoping we’ll receive more information today on Saturday’s fatal collision from the Nevada State Police. Icy fog and slick conditions are going to be the rule today, so take it easy going wherever you’re going.

Douglas County is conducting crack sealing on Buckeye Road between Orchard and East Valley roads today. The road will be closed today.

At least we’re not going to have to dodge school buses until next year as Douglas schools are on winter break through Jan. 2. Watch out for children walking and bicycling out there, especially around favorite haunts like the movie theater or the swim center.

The inversion that’s keeping the fog on the deck is also trapping smoky air from woodstoves, reducing air quality. The low-cost sensor in Minden is reading 60 this morning in the moderate quality, according to airnow.gov.

There may be some foggy spots this morning, but the sun is rising for the first time in a couple of days. The Minden Tahoe Airport automated weather system reported a minus quarter-mile visibility around 6 a.m. While I’m not entirely sure how you have negative visibility, it doesn’t bode well for this morning’s commute.

It’s frosty out, too, at 8 degrees this morning and 92 percent humidity, so that might answer the question. The trees were flocked by the pogonip on Sunday morning and I anticipate more of the same today.

The high temperature today isn’t forecast to crack 30 degrees with the wind out of the south at 5 mph before it just gives up entirely after lunchtime.
