Genoa, Nev. — Free coronavirus tests will begin distribution today at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center in Gardnerville, Kahle Community Center in Stateline, East Fork Fire Protection District offices in Minden, Douglas County Agricultural Extension in Gardnerville, the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District Office in Zephyr Cove and the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce in Gardnerville. The state purchased the tests with money from the American Rescue Plan Act.

Douglas planning commissioners approved a permit the first synagogue in the county’s history. Parking was the key issue for two other occupants of the Market Street center located on Kingsbury Grade, but the panel voted 6-0 in favor.

A single-vehicle rollover reported about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on South Sunridge in Indian Hills resulted in the driver being ejected. The driver was helicoptered to Renown Regional Medical Center. It was the second rollover with injury in two days in the county.

Today, I’m working on the last Thursday edition of The Record-Courier, for now, at least. When I arrived here in 1989, the paper was published on Thursdays, but it shifted to Wednesday and Saturday on Flag Day 1995. The shift to Thursday in 2018 was also due to the press, which giveth and also taketh away.

Off in the distance, the forecast has the barest hint that there might be some weather, with a chance of rain or snow on Monday with the snow level dropping to 4,700 feet. I would suggest not getting attached.

In the meantime, today expect sunny skies and a high temperature near 57 degrees and the breeze calm picking up out of the west at 5 mph this afternoon. The high is supposed to climb to 65 on Sunday.
