Genoa, Nev. — A proposal to disguise a cell tower as a water tower behind the Genoa Fire Station was deemed inappropriate 4-0 by the Genoa Historic District Commission on Thursday. A score of residents turned out for the meeting.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs may release an environmental assessment for Painted Rock Mine next month. County commissioners asked that a required public hearing be conducted in Douglas County.

The conservation easement on Van Sickle Ranch has finally been consummated after six years. The original nomination included 419 acres east of Foothill Road across from the old Van Sickle Station.

The St. Gall Rummage Sale opens at 7 a.m. today, and I’ll wager folks are arriving with the dawn this morning. The sale continues through 5 p.m. today and again 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

There could be a significant number of shoppers parked along Centerville just outside Gardnerville this morning, so keep an eye out for pedestrians through there.

Jakota Wass will be playing the Bently Summer Concert Series 6 p.m. tonight in Minden Park. Family Day at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center will focus on back-to-school 11 a.m. Saturday with Douglas County alum talking about the old days.

There’s a slight chance we’ll see thunderstorms after 2 p.m. today. Otherwise the forecast calls for sunny skies and a high temperature of 89 degrees. The wind will be out of the west at 5 mph, picking up this evening to 5-10 mph, gusting to 20 mph.
