A shooting that claimed the life of a Genoa man on Thursday afternoon has been determined to be self-inflicted.

“We are confident that the gunshot was self-inflicted and are ruling the death a suicide,” Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley said on Friday. “The girlfriend of the decedent was not injured, although there was an argument prior to him shooting himself.”

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigators responded to a report of a shooting at an address on Foothill Meadows and Jacks Valley Road around 2:10 p.m. Thursday.

The girlfriend was the only witness. After talking to her and examining the scene, investigators called for the chaplain and the mortuary and were clearing the scene by 5:30 p.m.

No other injuries were reported.
