Genoa, Nev. — I’m in contact with the Nevada State Police regarding the reported collision between a wrong-way and a trooper at Highway 395 and Johnson Lane around 11 p.m. Friday. I’ll get it online when I get more.

It’s fall break for Douglas County public school students in the run-up to Friday’s Nevada Day holiday. Nevada’s 159th birthday is actually Oct. 31, but we celebrate that going door to door asking for candy.

The first weekend of backyard burning brought the usual fire reports. It didn’t sound like anything got out of hand over the weekend, though it was pretty smoky on Saturday.

Air quality actually stayed in the moderate to good range over the weekend. Sunday’s breeze managed to clear a lot of the smoke out of the Valley ahead of the front.

There was a smidge of recorded precipitation at the Lake overnight, but otherwise it appears to have been dry in the rest of the county. That could change on Wednesday, and again on the Nevada Day holiday, with the barest possibility of snow on Friday morning.

No snow in the forecast today with sunny skies and a high temperature of 65 degrees. A light breeze will come out of the north this afternoon.
