Genoa, Nev. — Douglas County Mosquito Abatement will be treating 4,000 acres flying over the north and south sides of Muller Lane this morning.

The big hot dogs being served up at Tuesday night were the stars of the strategic plan workshop conducted by the county at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center in Gardnerville.

There was a slight bump in the unemployment level during August going from 1,089 in July to 1,151, up to 5.1 percent. That’s up from 963 in August 2022, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

The theme for the Dec. 2 Parade of Lights is theme is "Tiger Tidings: Spreading Championship Joy.” The grand marshals are the state championship Douglas softball and girls golf teams.

A 12-acre fire is burning in Red Canyon in the Pine Nuts near the Douglas-Lyon line. It was spotted around 5 p.m. Tuesday and firefighters will be hiking in to douse it this morning. There’s no cause, but odds are it was lightning.

There’s a chance of thunderstorms after midnight, with showers arriving on Thursday. The chance of precipitation has dropped from 50-50 to 30 percent, but the high temperature is forecast to hit the mid-60s.

The west wind is forecast to hit 15-20 mph, gusting to 30 mph this afternoon. We’ve seen worse and there isn’t any alert for the Valley, but maybe limit spark producing activities today.

The forecast calls for sunny skies, which might actually occur today, and a high of 78 degrees, with a 5-10 mph south wind this morning.
