Genoa, Nev. — East Fork firefighters had an early morning today responding to a tree fire near Johnson Lane and Billy’s Road at around 2:50 a.m. The tree was still smoldering when they wrapped up at around 5:30 a.m. but didn’t pose any danger of spreading, according to the last call.

There were a lot of fire calls related to controlled burns over the weekend. Open burning officially wraps up May 19. Go to eastforkfire.org to download regulations.

There was a good turnout for the dedication of the Bill Brooks Fire Bay in Genoa. A reprinting of the book containing Brooks’ Uncle Hans Meyer-Kassel’s paintings is in the works, according to publisher Jack Bacon.

With the Autism Resource Fair and a variety of other events it was a busy weekend, and it’s going to get busier until the middle of June. A lot of things that are further down in the calendar aren’t going to be popping up quite as quickly.

It appears what Earth Day-related events there were happened over the weekend. Today looks like it will be beautiful in our corner of the globe with a high of 79 degrees and the wind out of the west at 5-10 mph this afternoon.
