Rain showers could be seen in the Pine Nuts this morning as a new front arrives in Western Nevada.

There is a chance for thunderstorms this afternoon with snow showers in the mountains tonight.

“Today will be the coldest day of the week as temperatures back down below normal,” said National Weather Service Reno Meteorologist Edan Weishahn. “(It will) be cooler with showers through Saturday morning with widespread valley rain and mountain snow showers possible today, through early Saturday morning. Sierra passes may see snow, but recent warmth will limit impacts.”

Around .05 inches of rain was recorded in several locations across Carson Valley since midnight.

Weishahn said that rain totals will be light today and that the storm will move off before Saturday afternoon with conditions warming, through the first part of the week, but there might be more active weather toward the end of the first week of May.

“So May is hedging toward a cooler and possibly wetter outlook for now,” she said.

Genoans were setting up tents for Saturday’s Western Heritage Festival on Friday.

The town also planted a fire maple in Genoa Park as part of its Arbor Day celebration.
