Genoa, Nev. — Douglas County Mosquito Control plans to conduct aerial spraying today and Saturday, early in the morning. Mosquitoes tested positive in traps near Genoa, Carson Valley Golf Course and below Sunridge, which will prompt fogging tonight.


Smoke from the Crozier Fire drifted south prompting a 911 call from Jacks Valley around 5:45 p.m. Thursday reducing air quality into unhealthy levels late last night. Fire.airnow.gov shows conditions improving to unhealthy for sensitive groups in Minden and in the good range for the Gardnerville Ranchos.


At last report, the Crozier fire burning near Placerville was at 1,582 acres. Satellite mapping shows it might be around twice that after burning through the night. The Park Fire is still burning northeast toward Lassen.


Work could begin on the 10th Street sidewalk project in Minden by the end of this month, according to Town Manager JD Frisby. The town board awarded a $346,964 contract to Qualcon Construction on Wednesday.


Country band Locked and Loaded performs at Minden Park 6 p.m. today as part of the Starbucks Roasting Plant and Distribution Center summer concert series.


A fundraiser is 4 p.m. Saturday at Big Daddy’s Bike and Brew, 1546 Main St., Gardnerville to send Battalion Chief Scott Fraser’s family and the East Fork Professional Firefighters Association honor guard to the IAFF fallen firefighters ceremony in Colorado.


Carson Valley Swim Center is celebrating its 35th anniversary with free swimming and an open house 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.


Something that won’t be open this Saturday or next is the Judicial & Law Enforcement Center’s parking lot while it is getting some work done.


Highway 395 work will have Mission Street closed today. Traffic pattern is shifting to the inside lanes, according to the text from NDOT I received Thursday night.


Heat and smoke are going to stick around today and tonight, at least. The high today is forecast to be 95 degrees with haze 8-11 a.m. The zephyr will pick up out of the west at 10-15 mph this afternoon.
