Coffee on Main’s Lauren and Ruben Olivares welcomed a baby girl July 30.

Born at 25 weeks and 4 days, Ruby May weighed 1 pound and 4 ounces at 11 inches long at birth.

Lauren said there were complications with her placenta which made her a high risk pregnancy. During an appointment with her high-risk doctor, she was quickly admitted to Renown Labor and Delivery where one complication led to another, and Lauren had an emergency cesarean.

“She (Ruby May) cried out in the middle of the operating room, it completely surprised everyone,” said Lauren. “Even I was like, was that her.”

Lauren described Ruby May as a miracle baby, gaining four ounces as of Sunday.

“She is a stubborn little fighter,” she said. “She continues to be strong and she’s growing along.”

Ruby May maybe doing well, but Lauren said it’s a day-to-day situation in the NICU.

“Anything can still happen, we have to be careful,” she said. “We haven’t really been able to touch her.”

Lauren said Ruby May’s skin and brain is still delicate and she has tubes all over her body providing her all the nutrients she needs, and any harsh movements can hurt Ruby.

Lauren has recently been able to give Ruby May breast milk.

“I’m grateful I am able to supply her some nutrients still.”

If all goes well and Ruby May continues to grow, be strong and healthy she can go home in November, which was when Lauren would have been due.

“In the meantime, we are looking forward to see how much she grows,” said Lauren, “and despite it all, how special is it that we get to see exactly how she would look at basically every stage of pregnancy.”

Lauren and Ruben want to thank the staff at Renown Labor and Delivery for their dedication, knowledge, and support.

“They have been exceptional,” she said. “This entire time they have been so helpful, caring and patient and have gone above and beyond. I want to thank them for everything they have done and their continued support.”

As Ruby May continues to grow, she and her family need all the support they can get.

The family is currently staying at Ronald McDonald housing so they can be closer to Renown. Lauren said she is out of work and Ruben has taken time off too.

“We are grateful to have so much support,” said Lauren.

A GoFundMe has been set up in the support of the Olivares for medical bills and other expenses while Ruby May is in the NICU.

“She is already a million dollar baby, but worth every penny,” said Lauren.
