Genoa, Nev. — Project Santa Claus is collecting its boxes today, so if you plan to donate a new unwrapped toy, now would be the time. Can’t find one of the boxes? The chamber is accepting donations at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center.

Despite opposition, Douglas County commissioners voted 5-0 to ban truck traffic on streets between Johnson Lane and Stephanie Way. Restrictions for Wildhorse, Vicky, Clapham lanes, Kayne, Gordon and Fuller Avenues and East Valley Road north of Johnson Lane go into effect Feb. 1, 2025.

Fremont-East Valley Road south of Johnson Lane was included in the agreement approved by the county for local deliveries and isn’t covered by the ordinance. Residents say Knox Excavation trucks were using Sunrise Pass Road, which was only supposed to be used in emergencies.

Elected Public Administrator Steve Walsh resigned his position in a letter dated Thursday. The daughter of a man who died in 2023 spoke before county commissioners about her difficulties contacting him.

Water service should be restored at Clear Creek up by Highway 50 after a breakage was discovered on Thursday prompting a boil water order. If the break is fixed today, the boil water order will be lifted at sometime soon.

The first day of winter is going to be a little busy, with a walk celebrating the winter solstice at 10 a.m. along Martin Slough Trail, an artisan’s reception 11 a.m. at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville and carolers at the Chateau, also at 11 a.m.

There was a little bit of color in the sunrise on this last day of autumn, indicating some incoming weather. Saturday morning’s forecast to be breezy with 25-30 mph winds, gusting to 45 mph before calming down after lunch.

Today is forecast to be hazy with cloud cover rolling in this afternoon. The high is predicted to hit 59 degrees with the winds calm.
