It did sort of snow on Wednesday afternoon, so the forecast wasn't really wrong. There might be more coming on Saturday.

Genoa, Nev. — A winter storm watch has been issued for the entire length of the Sierra starting 7 a.m. Saturday and lasting until 10 a.m. Sunday. National Weather Service forecasters are doubling down, predicting 5-10 inches of snow for Lake Tahoe, Markleeville and Truckee and 10-20 inches above 7,000 feet.

Kingsbury Grade was pretty slick for the evening commute after an afternoon squall set up slick conditions. A 4:45 p.m. traffic collision on Tramway didn’t help matters for those leaving Heavenly’s Nevada side.

There are chain controls in effect for Kingsbury Grade for all vehicles except those with four-wheel drive and snow tires from Highway 50 to the Daggett Pass chain-up area.

A Tuesday morning traffic collision in the Gardnerville Ranchos occurred when the driver of the pickup had what investigators are characterizing as a medical accident and crossed over into the opposing lane hitting the SUV head-on, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

County commissioners have ethics and open meeting law training 10 a.m. today after electing a new chair and vice chair. Terri Willoughby will receive a proclamation for her service before presenting the status of three-dozen projects approved for federal funding.

A new contract with the Douglas County Employees’ Association is up for approval this afternoon. That and the adoption of Minden’s revised trash ordinance are the main action items today. Commissioners meet at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden.

The big storm is forecast to bring as much as 2 inches of snow to Minden over the weekend, starting around 11 a.m. It’s a big Valley and there are lots of microclimates, so as always, your mileage may vary.

The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high of 42 degrees today with the wind out of the northwest around 5 mph. There’s a slight chance of snow tonight after 10 p.m. through 10 a.m. Friday morning, but I wouldn’t expect much from that.
