First place went to Ayden, who had a 17:13-minute time followed by Reno resident Imanol Pereda with 17:40 and Cayden in third with 17:55 minutes.

A new course greeted the record 309 participants in the annual run in Gardnerville on the Fourth of July.

“Congratulations, this is the biggest one yet,” Main Street Gardnerville Director Jen Tune told the crowd as they waited for the race to begin.

“Erik (Nilssen) of the Town of Gardnerville set up a really beautiful course,” Tune said. “It’s a good route.”

“The most patriotic went to the Forrest Gump gang, and they looked quite festive and incredible,” Tune said. “All in all, it was an amazing day.”

Proceeds from the 5K and a raffle for two handmade American Flag quilts will go to purchase Wreaths across America for the more than 200 veterans buried in the Garden Cemetery.
