Genoa, Nev. — Rescuers from Douglas and Mono counties responded to a report of a man who went into the water around 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Topaz Lake and didn’t come out. I’ll be tracking this today and posting as new information becomes available.

A National Weather Service gauge on Wild Oat Mountain above Topaz Lake recorded .89 inches of rain from Sunday’s storms between 3:40 and 4:40 p.m. Sunday, which might have hampered rescue efforts some. Both CareFlight and CalStar declined requests to search due to the weather.

It appears the Lake Tahoe earthquake swarm has settled down, with just one additional 1.82 magnitude temblor on Sunday afternoon.

Minden might just have received its first rain since May 14 on Sunday, depending on whether the squall that crossed the Valley ended up over the gauge. The Gardnerville Ranchos received .6 inches, which was a little more than what I measured north of Genoa.

Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin said he recorded 98 lightning strikes, .14 inches and a little hail, but what really came down was the temperature which dropped 30 degrees in the relative blink of an eye.

There’s a good chance we’ll see more thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. again today. Cloud cover and rain could keep the high temperature from hitting the forecast 96 degrees, but it will be muggy. The breeze will be out of the west at 5 mph.
