County commissioners will discuss adopting the 911 Surcharge five-year plan and the introduction of an ordinance to increase the surcharge from 75 cents to $1 per phone line. Commissioners meet 10 a.m. today in the Douglas County Courthouse.


The owners of David Walleys Hot Springs Resort are offering an easement for a trail around the eastern side of the resort that connects with the current trail to Genoa. County commissioners are scheduled to discuss accepting the easement.


With 30-40 mph wind gusts scouring parts of Carson Valley this morning, Ma Nature’s not even vaguely done with us. This latest storm wasn’t particularly wet with less than a tenth of an inch over the last three days. A wind advisory returns 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday.


National Weather Service radar shows the brunt of the storm is breaking up over the Sierra, with a little spillover into northern Douglas County. There might be a little rain today with partly sunny skies and a high temperature of 62 degrees. The wind is predicted to be out of the south at 10-15 mph gusting to 25 mph.

Genoa, Nev. — Power is estimated to be restored to 42 NV Energy customers by around 11 a.m. today after being shut off for a public safety outage. Power was restored to the other 15,000 customers last night, according to the company.


Liberty crews were running the lines in Alpine and Mono counties to make sure they are safe to re-energize. As of last night, they’d hoped to have the power back on by 9 p.m.


Wild Oat Mountain got the top wind gust on Wednesday morning with 60 mph. Jacks Valley and Sheridan had 58 mph gusts about 14 hours apart with Walley’s Hot Springs recording a 53 mph gust at 7:40 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
