East Fork Justice of the Peace candidate Jeff Schemenauer said someone took one of the magnetic campaign signs off his pickup truck while he was at last week’s Wind Down Wednesday at Heritage Park.
He said he reported it to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and fingerprints were taken.
“The truck and magnets are kept meticulously clean to ensure proper adhesion, and they’ve never fallen off, even at highway speeds,” Schemenauer said on Friday.
It was the second time Schemenauer said vandals have struck his signs.
“This is the second case of interference we’ve encountered, the first being the banner cut down at the Douglas Rodeo on Sept. 7,” he said.
Schemenauer is not the only person whose signs have been vandalized in some way this election cycle.
On Monday night, rancher Gail Teig contacted The Record-Courier to say someone tore down a school board candidate’s sign to put up one for their opponent.
Rancher Clarence Burr said someone damaged his Trump signs along Highway 88 in April.
Circle S Western Store was also vandalized with some anti-Trump slogans.
