As of Sept. 30, Ruby May Olivares, born to Coffee on Main’s Lauren and Ruben Olivares, is 2 months old.

Ruby May was born at 25 weeks, weighing 1 pound and 4 ounces.

Now, she weighs 3 pounds and 7 ounces, and is meeting milestone after milestone, including receiving her first tub bath and being held for the first time by grandma Adele Hoppe.

“It was so special,” said Hoppe. “She is so small, but strong, trying to hold her little head up.”

Lauren said the next step is low flow oxygen.

“She is now on high flow oxygen,” said Lauren. “The next step is low flow, which means she can come home.”

Not only does low flow mean Ruby May can be released from the NICU, but it also means she can be bottle fed.

“That’s going to be her biggest obstacle for coming home,” said Lauren. “Once she can drink 6 bottles throughout the day and she can sit in a car seat for two hours without having any desats, she can come home.”

Desats is a term used to mean that saturation or oxygen levels are dropping.

The goal is to bring Ruby May home by mid-November.

“The day before Thanksgiving is her Papa’s birthday, so we are hoping for a little birthday present for him,” said Lauren.
