Douglas High School remembers Molly Lahlum during the 20th annual Memorial Scholarship Dinner on Sept. 22 at Carson Valley Inn’s TJ’s Corral.
The event is put on by the Block D Club and honors past student athletes who were lost too soon and funds a scholarship in their memory.
“We celebrate athletes who were taken to soon and take the time to honor them,” Block D president Giana Zinke.
The event was started by Ernie Monfiletto in 2004 following the death of Nicole Snyder and has evolved over the years to honor past Douglas High School Athletes.
This year, the dinner is honoring Molly Lahlum, a Douglas High School swimmer and Carson Valley Swim Center lifeguard. She past away April 23, 2009, two weeks after she collapsed at a swim meet.
During the event guests can enjoy a dinner consisting of grilled chicken, St. Louis pork ribs, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, a garden salad with balsamic vinaigrette, rolls, and cookies; a cornhole tournament, and music.
“It’s a chance to come together have a good time while remembering past athletes,” said Zinke.
Block D hosts many events throughout the school year that helps benefit inside and outside the Douglas High School community.
“We do a lot of community service events and do what we can to benefit the community,” said Zinke.
All proceeds from the dinner fund the Block D Memorial Scholarship, the Senior Athlete of the Year Scholarship, and DHS Athletics.
