Genoa, Nev. — Heavenly Mountain Resort reports receiving 25 inches of snow over the past two days. The telemetry at Heavenly Valley is indicating the snow is 69 inches deep, up from 51 inches on March 30. Avalanche control was booming on Tuesday morning. I expect more of that today.

Chain controls are still in effect for up and around Lake Tahoe and I have a report that the roads are still crusty. That should correct itself as the day continues, though take it easy this morning.

East Fork is responding to a report of a fire east of Topaz Lake that might on the Sleeping Elephant Ranch. With some snow on the ground it’s likely the ranch is doing a burn on the back side.

Douglas County wrapped up its budget hearings on Tuesday after going through the budget line by line. The budgeted general fund balance is $81 million with $12 million of that in the ending fund balance.

County Manager Jenifer Davidson said Tuesday that of the 613 county employees, 352 of those are paid for from the general fund, with only 46 once you eliminate public safety, courts, elected officials, those supported by revenue and those mandated by the state.

Genoans will discuss their budget tonight. Candy Dance raised $401,025 in 2024, which was down from the budgeted $410,000. Renting the town’s buildings accounts for around $30,000. There is a move afoot to increase the parking fee for Candy Dance to $20. Town Board members meet 4:30 p.m. today in the Genoa Town Hall.

A $2.7 million tentative budget will be presented to Minden Town Board members 5:30 p.m. today in the CVIC Hall. Minden’s accountant said projections are for a 4 percent increase in property tax revenue and an essentially zero change in state consolidated taxes.

I measured an inch of snow on my patio table north of Genoa, and more is lightly falling this morning. The forecast is for some snow showers after 11 a.m. with partly sunny skies and a high near 48 degrees, with a northwest wind at 5 mph this afternoon.
