Genoa, Nev. — Douglas County deputies responded to upper Old Clear Creek Road on New Year’s Eve to back up Carson City who was dealing with a barricaded man near the Douglas County line. Sheriff Ken Furlong said the man was killed after he came out shooting.

I heard a couple of calls for illegal fireworks on Tuesday night from folks celebrating New Year’s Eve. I don’t have a report from the Sheriff’s Office, but I was monitoring the scanner until around 10 p.m. and up until then it sounded fairly quiet across the county.

The medical calls for both East Fork and Tahoe Township were pretty similar to those for a typical Tuesday. At some point I’ll get an official round-up from the holiday and I’ll post that.

After another bright sunrise, New Year’s Day has so far been fairly gray, though it’s starting to clear a little bit, but its going to be pretty cloudy all day.

No precipitation is forecast to fall today as the high temperature climbs toward 53 degrees with the wind 5-10 mph out of the southwest this afternoon.
