Genoa, Nev. — I count 67 individuals taking office in 25 different elected boards this year and all of them are invited to participate in the county’s swearing-in ceremony 3-5 p.m. today. I’ve seen people sworn in by board attorneys and chairpersons over the years, so it’s not a requirement to participate.
Two newly elected officials who won’t be participating in today’s event are Tahoe Township Justice of the Peace Mike Johnson and newly elected East Fork Justice of the Peace Laurie Trotter. According to the county, they’re being sworn in on Monday.
I had 1.56 inches of precipitation total from the last two weeks of December just north of Genoa after I finally got my rain gauge unthawed. That’s a little more than the 1.36 inches recorded at Walley’s Hot Springs but a little less than the 2.07 inches in Sheridan over Dec. 18-27.
Heavenly Valley is running around 88 percent snow-water equivalent this morning with Carson Pass at 118 percent and Ebbetts at 100 percent on the nose.
It sprinkled a little bit on New Year’s Day, but not enough to measure. Heavenly Mountain Resort reported no snow over the New Year’s holiday with 10 inches over the past week.
There’s a little bit of color in the sunrise this morning, heralding more weather due to arrive sometime on Friday. The forecast calls for around a fifth of an inch of rain in Minden on Friday with a chance it will turn to snow after sunset. I don’t anticipate there will be much in the Valley.
The skies look fairly clear out this morning, so mostly sunny today seems to jibe with reality. The impending front is running up the high temperature, which could hit 58 degrees today. The wind is predicted to go from 5 mph to calm.
