Genoa, Nev. — The California Highway Patrol is reporting a fatality on Highway 89 just before the intersection of Highway 4 in Alpine County, 500 feet down toward the East Fork of the Carson River. The call came in at 3:25 a.m. The road is closed.

I’m told a majority of school board trustees rejected a proposal by Verizon to locate a 5G cell phone tower between the football field and the tennis courts at Douglas High School on Thursday night. The company is scheduled to return with its request to locate a tower at Station 14 on April 3.

With around a fifth of Stateline’s hotel rooms out of action over the past six months, vacation home rentals have been taking up the slack. On Thursday, Douglas County commissioners heard that Stateline’s occupancy rate below 50 percent reflects renovation work at Harvey’s and Golden Nugget, in addition to a slow start to ski season.

Commissioners repealed a development agreement for a completed project in Indian Hills. The Cottages were approved in 2005. Installation of a street light at Mica Drive and Vista Grande has held up repeal of the agreement over the last year.

The forecast calls for another couple of cool and partly cloudy days before temperatures ramp up to springtime levels. Partly sunny skies with a high temperature near 58 is predicted for today, with the east wind at 5-15 mph shifting west this afternoon. Temperatures are forecast to climb to 77 degrees by Tuesday.
