The father of the first student shot in the Columbine High School shootings in April 1998 will share his daughter's philosophy on compassion at St. Gall Catholic Church on Thursday.
A month prior to her death, Rachel Scott wrote a paper about her philosophies on being kind and compassionate. In the Rachel's Challenge program, Rachel's father Darrell Scott will talk about living the lifestyle Rachel wrote about.
As part of their responsibility to complete a community service project, two Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School Leadership students, eighth-graders Rose Lombino and Adriana Romanowitz, decided to bring a program called Rachel's Challenge to the community.
Adriana spoke to her father, Bill Romanowitz, about funding for the program, and in light of recent events, area fire and rescue stations pulled together the money to bring Rachel's Challenge to Douglas County.
The community presentation for Rachel's Challenge is 7 p.m. May 24 in the auditorium at St. Gall Catholic Church, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.
