Valley artist wins award

Carson Valley artist Don Fotine recently won Best of Show at the third annual Latimer Art Club Miniature Painting Show.

Santa visits

Pancake breakfast, 7:30-10:30 a.m., is $5, free for age 2 and younger. Tree brings Christmas joy

This year again, Debie Bush and her staff at the Walker General Store have the Giving Tree up in the store to get gifts for children who otherwise wouldn't have a real merry Christmas. It is very easy to contribute to this wonderful effort -- just go to the store, take a card from the tree that has the child's name and their gift wish, buy the gift and return it to the store. On Christmas Eve, Santa will deliver the gifts to the children.

Forever Preps

The Four Preps are forever. Even the insignia each of the Four Preps wears on his blazer displays the motto, "Prepus infinitum," which is Latin for "without limit or end."

Is it time for a break?

Our Father in heaven desires that we choose to take Him up on His offer to be His children, spend time with Him, and to grow spiritually from infancy to maturity. He puts us in a school of faith, just as we enroll our children in school, to teach us to follow and trust Him.

Pick an angel to help make holidays brighter

Project Santa Claus volunteers are lending a hand to Douglas County children in need for the 21st year. Organizers said the list of angels will exceed last year's total of 786 children helped.

Holiday exhibit this weekend at Dangberg Home Ranch

Nevada State Parks hosts the "Home Ranch for the Holidays" special exhibit of historic toys, games and Christmas decorations from the 1860s through the 1940s, noon to 4 p.m. today through Sunday, at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

Judges needed for Ruhenstroth's Christmas lighting contest

Have you noticed the Christmas lights throughout the neighborhood? It's so magical to ride through the streets and see the themed decorations. Brings out the child in all of us, don't you think?

Christmas reception at gallery

Hand-painted ornaments by Elfriede Short available at the East Fork Gallery's annual Christmas reception, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, at 1503 Highway 395, Gardnerville. Artist Helen Martin displays a watercolor by Jim Lawrence, which is the raffle prize at the reception. Raffle tickets are 6 for $5. Santa, trees, cookies at museum gala

The annual Holiday Gala at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville starts 10 a.m. Saturday. Be there early to get the best selection of cookies at the cookie walk. Santa, his elves and Rudolph are there 10 a.m. until mid-afternoon so grab the kids and grandkids to get photos taken. Get copies for everyone on your list. Photos are $5 per copy.

Holiday giving

The Douglas Disposal 16th annual food drive benefits the Carson Valley Community Food Closet. Information will be left on trash containers this week, letting customers know to place donations of nonperishable food items in plastic bags beside trash cans to be picked up by Douglas Disposal Dec. 6-10.

Scarecrow festival a big success

The artists of the East Fork Gallery wish to thank the community and everyone who helped make our 29th annual Scarecrow Festival a success. This fun, family event at the Minden Park each October to build your own scarecrow is thoroughly enjoyed by all.
